At Home

2021, with Greg Lapp

Especially during the pandemic, we were separated from those we loved.
What would we have done without Zoom?

A rooster crowing Christmas morning,
reminds me of home, but I’m away.
Santa comes today at home,
but here, it’s just another day.

I walk the dog on Christmas morning,
feed him kibble, watch him play.
I drink my coffee, go to work,
here, it’s just another day.

The folks at home will call tomorrow,
time zones being what they are.
Each fam’ly member will wish me love
and wish that I was not so far.

At home, my hand-print’s in the concrete,
At home, my picture’s on the wall,
At home, my childhood fort is still out back,
the mem'ries havn’t changed at all.

At home, there’ll be a fancy Christmas tree,
At home, the gifts I sent are underneath.
At home, they’ll toast my health & clink their glass
as they sit down to Christmas feast.

The folks at home will call tomorrow,
time zones being what they are.
I’ll wish each family member love
and wish that they were not so far.

I’ll fix my dinner Christmas evening,
The shows will all have holiday themes.
I’ll sleep in my apartment, but be
at home for Christmas in my dreams.
